Alycia Laks is a clinical researcher and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist. Prior to joining the lab she worked with stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors in a hospital setting. She is interested in translational research for the diagnosis and treatment of aphasia and alexia and in individual factors that contribute to stroke recovery. In her free time, Alycia enjoys teaching adaptive yoga, hiking, and traveling.


Trini Kelly, MA, CCC-SLP

Trini Kelly is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who is interested in neurogenic communication disorders. She previously worked at the SCORE Lab at Johns Hopkins University on projects investigating post-stroke language recovery, and is thrilled to continue similar work at Georgetown. Outside of the lab, she loves to explore the great outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends.

 

Sarah Ferguson Snider, MA, CCC-SLP

Sarah is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who is interested in alexia, aphasia, and primary progressive aphasia. Since 2004, Sarah has worked as a research speech-language pathologist with Dr. Rhonda Friedman in the Center for Aphasia Research and Rehabilitation (CARR) at Georgetown University Medical Center where she designs and administers language treatments to develop evidence-based aphasia therapies. She began working with Dr. Turkeltaub in 2012 and brings her expertise to CRL in the assessment of stroke participants. Outside of the lab, Sarah enjoys riding her bike around DC and spending time with her family.


DANIYAL NISBET, BS

Research Specialist and Lab Manager

Education:

2026 BS, Linguistics, Georgetown University

Daniyal Nisbet is a research specialist in the lab. Daniyal was an undergrad research assistant in the lab for 3 years and will now be coming back to be with us full-time! Dani majored in Linguistics and minored in both Cognitive Science and Persian Studies.

He is interested in the intersection of aphasia, multilingualism, and neuroscience. In his free time, Daniyal enjoys spending time with friends, cooking, reading, and exploring DC.


Meron Frew, BS

Clinical Research Recruiter

Education:

2024 BS, Clinical Neuroscience, Virginia Tech

Meron graduated from Virginia Tech in 2024 with a B.S. in Clinical Neuroscience and a minor in Psychology. Her research interest lies in the disease mechanisms of neurological disorders and their impact on cognitive function. She hopes to gain substantial experience in stroke research and attend graduate school down the line. Outside of research, Meron loves playing chess, painting, watching food content and trying new recipes.
